about us!

The Appalachian Gothic web site is a portal for art and information online. It started as a third major web project for author, Laura Wright, and bloomed into a web site offering information on a variety of topics.

Many Appalachian areas are not often open to news as they should be. The media is not resident friendly unless a certain criteria is met, or the individual is very familiar with someone. This is a place that is free of such practices.

The Appalachian Gothic is a contemporary site with a contemporary message. While we fondly discuss our heritage as so often emphasized, it is not the entirety of our lives. Appalachian areas exist today and with contemporary problems that require solutions.

It is the ultimate purpose that this site should bring about awareness and encourage growth of ideas and society in these regions. It is to expose discrimination, bias, and the outright bigotry that often accompanies hearing someone is "Appalachian."
